As her agent, Lot had yet to book her one assignment. He seemed to find a problem with every single one of the offers that stacked his desk. Either it was a bad location, or he’d worked with the photographer and he was a prick or a sleazebag, as Lot liked to put it. Or the company wasn’t offering her enough. He had a valid excuse for turning down each job, and always ended his explanation with Pasha’s best interests, for her career, at heart. And Pash was unconcerned at least for the time being, because the mere suggestion of leaving Lot, even for a short period of time, was incredibly unappealing. But Pash also knew that sooner rather than later, she would miss it. She loved modeling and the travel and for the most part, the people.
It was when an offer had come in, to pair her with another male model though, that Lot had really gone overboard. To the point that he’d insulted and pissed off other people in the industry. Not a great way to begin a new business. And that worried Pash. It would seem her pretty prince, had a jealous streak, a mile wide.
But strangely, every time Lot declined work on her behalf, he’d bring her flowers or some trinket. Or take her to dinner. One weekend he’d even gone so far as to rent a yacht. Just the two of them, champagne and roses, exquisite food. And Lot could not have been more attentive and sweet. It was the most romantic weekend Pash had ever spent. Making love, out on the deck with the hot sun beating down on them, had been pure magic.
But one day as she rooted through Lot’s desk drawer for a handful of his new business cards —she wanted to put some in her bag to hand out —she came across a framed photograph.
The image was obviously Lot as a child posing with a lovely brunette.
“Lot? Did you know this was in here?”
“What is it?”
“It’s a picture in a frame.”
His features dropped, but he walked over and took it from her grip then carelessly tossed it back into the drawer. “Where’d you unearth that from?” he snapped.
“Oh, don’t do that,” Pash admonished, picking the frame back out. “It’s a lovely picture. Who is that you’re with?”
“My mother,” he answered, his voice flat.
“She’s beautiful. But, of course, your parents would be. She looks so young, like she could be your sister.” Pasha ran her fingers reverently over Lot’s young face. He was stunning even then. Those incredibly deep brown eyes bordered with the desirable long dark lashes. His expression was sad, like a puppy dog. But in the photo, where he looked as if he might be seconds from tears his mother’s expression was one of excitement—as if she might jump up from the stool as soon as the flash went off. “Why don’t you have it up on the wall or displayed on your desk, so that you can see it?”
“Pfft, because maybe I don’t want to see it.
